The West of Scotland Coronary Prevention Study: 20 Years and Still Going
Initiated in 1988, this was the first major statin study in patients without a history of myocardial infarction. Dr. Ian Ford describes results and lessons learned from this trial - both clinical and methodological - and the potential for conducting clinical trials based almost entirely on computerized record linkage to routinely collected electronic health records.
Speaker: Ian Ford, Professor of Biostatistics, University of Glasgow, Director of the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics. Research interests: design, conduct, analysis and interpretation of clinical trials and epidemiological studies, in biostatistical methods, and the use of novelelectronic tools to enhance the conduct of clinical research, particularly related to the use of routinely collected health data.
