Dr. Melissa Begg Steps Down as Co-Director of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research

The Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research announces the departure of Melissa Begg, ScD, founding Co-Director and Co-Principal Investigator of the Irving Institute, and Director of the training and education resource, TRaining And Nurturing Scientists FOr Research that is Multidisciplinary (TRANSFORM). Dr. Begg is a visionary leader and was pivotal to the formation of the Irving Institute. In 2006 along with Dr. Henry N. Ginsberg, she led the development of Columbia University’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program grant. Dr. Begg made countless contributions to the Irving Institute and Columbia’s CTSA Program grant during her 12-year tenure. Dr. Begg has been Professor of Biostatistics in the Mailman School of Public Health for more than 25 years. From 2010 to 2014, she served as Vice Dean for Education at the Mailman School for Public Health. In 2014, Dr. Begg became Columbia University’s Vice Provost for Educational Programs. Her positions in the University were both complementary and strengthening to her role at the Irving Institute. The Irving Institute is grateful for Dr. Begg’s dedication and fearless tenacity and wish her continued success in the Provost’s Office at Columbia University.
