Community-Based Participatory Research Course

This program is provided by the Community Engagement Core Resource (CECR).

Overview

The Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) course provides participants with structured training and practical experience in academic-community research partnerships.  

Academic-community partnered pairs will receive:

  • Training in CBPR methodology 
  • Consultation with CBPR experts on community engagement and partnership dynamics
  • Access to other Irving Institute resources

Academic and community applicants are required to enroll and partake in the CBPR Course as partners. Attendance is expected from both academic and community partners. In addition to the seminars, participants undertake independent reading, writing, and field exercises outside of class.

Eligibility

This course is available to all Columbia University researchers who hold a faculty appointment of Assistant Professor or higher. External community applicants are welcome but must hold senior leadership roles within health, social service, or faith-based not-for-profit organizations serving New York City.

Cost

The CBPR Program is offered at no cost to all admitted participants.
