Irving Institute Announces 2017 Bench to Bedside Pilot Awardees

The Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, home to Columbia University’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program hub, announces the winners of the 2017-18 Bench to Bedside pilot awards.

The Bench to Beside Pilot Award takes the next step towards the development of multidisciplinary teams by offering one-year $40,000 pilot awards for collaborations between researchers from basic science departments and clinical/translational investigators. The awardees are:

Genetically Unexplained Neonatal Epilepsy

  • Tristan Sands, MD, PhD, Neurology - Pediatric Neurology (Principal Investigator: Basic Science)
  • Erin Heinzen, PhD, Pathology and Cell Biology - Pathology (Co-Principal Investigator: Clinical)

Investigating the Pathogenicity of PARK2 Heterozygosity

  • Clarissa Waites, PhD, Pathology and Cell Biology - Pathology (Principal Investigator: Basic Science)
  • Roy Alcalay, MD, MS, Neurology - Movement Disorders (Co-Principal Investigator: Clinical)
