New Phlebotomy Training
Developed through the Clinical Research Resource (CRR) in collaboration with the Training and Education Resource (TRANSFORM), the program offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines didactic instruction with intensive, hands-on training. Participants receive instruction in venipuncture techniques, safety protocols, and patient interaction, followed by simulation-based learning and supervised live blood draws required for certification eligibility.
The program builds on a successful pilot following CUIMC's "Simple is Better" initiative, which demonstrated both feasibility and strong participant outcomes. Trainees completed required venipunctures and capillary draws without adverse events, and several participants went on to obtain national certification, expanding CUIMC’s pool of qualified research personnel.
Now launched as a full program, the training is delivered over five consecutive days, with small cohort sizes to ensure individualized instruction. Upon completion, participants are eligible to pursue certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), strengthening both technical competency and confidence in conducting research procedures.
By creating a dedicated, research-focused training pathway, the program enhances institutional capacity to support clinical trials while enabling investigators and study teams to operate more independently and efficiently.
